Сказал, что думает, что подобный глюк был вызван заменой запчастей, для которого ему нужно было отключать аккумулятор, и что "the computer had to reset and "relearn"".

Din, what car is it? I know I have seen it, but I don't remember :( I am pretty sure its not a Subaru, but I do know that at least Subarus have this glitch often - happened to my Mom once, that was 3 years ago, never happened again.

It's a 2006 Mazda 3.
Funny that you're saying this about Subaru –– I was actually planning to sell my Mazda and get a Subaru Impreza or Outback at the end of the year.... Now I am going to think twice! :)
I've never had a car stall on me before... Very unpleasant!

I got a Subaru Forrester :) And I got it after my Mom's Subaru, too :) And seriously, I would still totally recommend getting a Subaru, they are awesome cars. In your case, I don't think you should go for Outback, but we'll talk Subaru's, too, when we have our date :)

Yes, let's talk Subarus! :) By the way, any word from Lina?

Nope :(
So, I am going to say - which day works better for you, 10 or 17? Olya is good either one of them, so choose one, and she will have the other one, and we'll go from there! :)

I'm sorry, I'm totally behind everything - LJ and scheduling! I'm glad you didn't wait for me to figure my shit out.

Speaking of words from Lina: I think good thoughts of Subarus in general, considered very safe for children.

It's okay, I totally understand (being swamped and behind on everything myself).
Right now it's between Subaru, Volkswagen or Mazda for us (if they redesign the Mazda 3, otherwise it's just Subaru and Volkswagen)

I strongly recommend against the VW - repairs and maintenance are more expensive, and I've experienced lots of little cosmetic and electrical fails on the ones I've dealt with. Maybe it's all been fixed in the 3-4 years since I touched one, but I don't have such great confidence.

Are you looking at hatchbacks or sedans?

I know I'm totally late in the game, how is the car holding up? I keep hearing about yours and thinking very selfishly that I hope it doesn't happen to our Mazda 3!

The car has been running smoothly without incident. We drove it to Sacramento and back on the weekend. I guess the computer did have to "reset" after the repairs.
Actually, the minor problem my car had is apparently VERY common in these Mazdas. My dad's Mazda 3 has the same issue. It is, however, a very minor issue –– two different mechanics told me it's not even necessary to repair it. The only reason I did decide to have it fixed is I want to sell the car soon and I figured it may be hard to get a top dollar for a car with the "check engine" light!
I really like my Mazda 3 and will totally consider buying it again at the end of the year if they bring back the old design (the one mine and yours have).

So it's the thermostat and alternator, or the computer?

You can read about the main issue if you type code 0126 and Mazda 3 into Google. It's a common problem with mazdas, looks like. It's some little part of the thermostat that keeps getting stuck in either open or closed position.
My dad's Mazda 3 has the exact same issue.
The alternator was a separate problem, it just started going bad out of the blue. The battery light kept appearing on the dashboard and we knew right away it was the alternator because the battery is less than a year old... Since replacing the alternator cost less than $200, I decided to just go ahead with the replacement. I'd rather be safe that have all electricity go out in the car while I'm on the highway (been there before, not fun).
Anyway, the car is now running like brand new and I am about to take it to awesome Grisha to fix the dent. I hope to sell it for blue book value of "excellent condition" which it will be in once the dent is gone. The interior is spotless clean.

That's excellent! As I said, I had a relatively painless experience on Craigslist, the smartest thing I did was act with the buyer as if I had all the time in the world (which was the absolute truth). Plus, of course, do not let them intimidate you - this guy showed up with his "cousin" who had a computer and tried to tell me something about an oil leak... sure, buddy, you keep talking, I'll just stand here and wait for you to finish.
